The Balcon of Europe Nerja a gorgeous balcony looking over the Mediterranean sea. Named the Balcón de Europa by King alfonso XII. A perfect spot for the for taking a photo of the sea with the statue of the late king Alfonso XII in the background . It was actually King alfonso XII who actually named this the balcony of Europe. This was after the big earthquake that hit Nerja in 1884. Prior to this it was called “Paseo de la Batería” . The king on this visit “exclaimed this is the Balcón de Europa” and so the Balcon of Europe Nerja took its name.
The Balcon of Europe Nerja is quite charming and all the tourists who visit Nerja should make it compulsory to visit this balcony. Here you can take a stroll and also watch numerous artists (musicians, painters, jugglers) do their thing. Because it’s in the center of Nerja it’s a great spot to meet your friends or family. Here you can have an ice cream on one of the benches or in one of the many bars that surround this balcony.
The balcony of Europe also has the magnificent church of El Salvador another must to see on your visit to Nerja.
This is one of those places you just can’t miss when you are staying in Nerja. It will definitely become one of your favorite places. To just sit on the Balcon of Europe Nerja, people watching, is an absolute pleasure and one not to be missed.
It is without doubt the focal point of the town. It affords magnificent views up and down the coast of Calahonda beach and its neighboring coves. To the right of the Balcon is El Salon beach one of the most popular in Nerja. You can also see from the balcon Burriana beach and, in the distance, the picturesque village of Maro, . This is the site of the impressive Nerja Caves.
