Burriana Beach is the most popular beaches in Nerja. This lovely bustling beach is very popular with people who want a lively holiday, with lots of shops, bars and restaurants directly adjacent to the beach itself. Water sports of every type are plentiful. The beach is a wide stretch of sand, with the backdrop of cliffs and mountains and Playa Capistrano. In between there are several Authentic Spanish Chiringuitos for delicious fresh fish and meat to be enjoyed for lunch or dinner.
There are also just back from the beach, many cosmopolitan restaurants and bars to enjoy virtually many kinds of cuisine to choose from.
Burriana beach is the perfect place for people who like water sports having a large number of such activities. You can take a nice walk on a pedalboard, or enjoy riskier sports like the jet ski and trying the banana boat . For the very adventurous there is a scuba diving center where you can have a lesson as a beginner or for the more experienced, take a padi course. Also you can enter the Costa del Sol deep-sea diving center where you can book your equipment and enjoy some diving around the cliffs where you will find abundant flora and impressive fauna.
Burriana Beach does gets quite crowded in the summer months. People tend to walk from the centre of Nerja to Burriana although older people and kids could find the walk a bit long and the journey back to town a little arduous. Therefore it is preferable to drive there or get a Nerja taxis. It’s one of the most visited beaches due to the amount of activities and services on offer. Also, it’s the only beach you can access directly from the “Parador de Turismo” in Nerja via their lift.
Burriana Beach has always been a very busy area and parking in the street can be quite complicated and in the summer its virtually impossible. There is A public car park just higher up than the beach. This has helped the parking issues. Because it’s not exactly in the center of town, most people will opt for taking their car. People have to go early to get a parking space in the street or alternatively you will have to pay for parking.
This beach year after year has been awarded blue flag for clean and safe beaches.. Also, it possessed the Q for Tourist Quality in 2016. Burrian Beach is 800m long and 40m wide and presents dark sand. This makes it one of the most visited beaches in Nerja. Normally the waves are quite moderate hence the award as mentioned above.
Those who are really sporty can find 3 beach volleyball courts at their disposal. Here you can play with your friends and have a great afternoon. Also you can go paddleboarding or rent a kayak and go to the Maro cliffs. A place well worth visiting.
Another perfect plan is a long walk along the promenade. This promenade goes all along the beach and the statue of Antonio Mercero (director of the Verano Azul tv series) is located here.
Also, on this promenade are a number of beach bars and restaurants where you can indulge into the Mediterranean diet and enjoy some excellent fried fish. Here you can also find the “AYO” beach restaurant, famous for its paella because you pay once and eat it much as you like. It was Ayo who was one of the boys who discovered Nerja Caves, another recommended place to visit on your holiday.
If you wish to have dinner on Burriana beach, there are all kinds of restaurants on offer. You can find typical Spanish restaurants but also Pizzerias and even an Indian restaurant.
There are many souvenir shops on the front. If not prepared for a beach day. you can buy most things. You can purchase sunscreen, beach lilo’s, flip-flops and most utilities for the beach.
Furthermore Nerja itself boasts a wide variety of shops, from independent designer boutiques to traditional family run butchers, grocers and bakers. You will find hand made craft stores, wine and spirit merchants, shops selling clothes and shoes. There are handmade leather goods and jewellery, books, electrical goods and perfume. The main shopping areas are around the Balcon De Europa, on Calle Diputacion and on Calle Pintada.
There are numerous ice cream parlors and kiosks. Just sit down with a lovely ice cream on the front at Burriana and watch the day go by…very relaxing
