General information Calahonda:

Calahonda is part of Mijas Costa. It is a popular holiday resort in the southern part of Costa Del Sol. The town is in a convenient position because its 5 kilometers from Fuengirola, 35 kilometers south-west from Málaga. Also it is 20 kilometers east of Marbella and 93 kilometers from Gibraltar.

In this locality there are many shops, bars and restaurant. Consequently there is always plenty to do in the evenings.

Mijas Costa is one of the three main areas within the Mijas municipality. In the municipality there are various well-known residential areas such as El Faro, La Cala de Mijas, Riviera del Sol and Calahonda.

The area is renown for its long stretches of beaches with golden or dark coloured sand. There are also many cute little coves. Furthermore the beach of La Cala has the Blue Flag status. The center offers many opportunities for sport and leisure activities,  such as golf, fishing, scuba diving, diving and windsurfing. On the 12th of November 2014 was the inauguration of the new coastal path. This path connects La Cala de Mijas and Calahonda by a wooden boardwalk parallel to the sea. Consequently it is possible to walk or ride a bicycle between these two localities.
