Torrox Costa is a popular seaside resort. The Pueblo is 4 kilometers inland from the coastal area.
The area is very popular with tourists during the summer. Whilst in contrast it still has not got as built up as some of its counterparts in the Costa del Sol.
The resort is made up of modern apartment blocks. These are mainly owned by Spanish and German nationals, who have second residence here. Consequently Torrox is not really a package holiday resort. Hence, the life is a lot more refined and laid-back than most of the other busier resorts.
Much of the Torrox’s amenities: bars, restaurants and shops, can be found on the main Paseo Maritimo (promenade). During the summer market stalls set up selling various arts, crafts and souvenirs. The town has also got supermarkets and banks.
If you like to keep up with your exercise routine whilst on holiday, then this area offers lots of fitness options. This includes football, basketball, volleyball, aerobic, tennis, swimming and much more.
Torrox Costa boasts many beautiful beaches. There is a nautical school on El Penoncillo beach where you can windsurf or use a canoe.
The Costa del Sol has numerous beaches that have been awarded the quality Blue Flag 2019 award. Ferrara beach is one of them. The resort has also been awarded the ‘Q’ award for quality. The beach offers family leisure, sport, sun, culture and gastronomy which is so extensive. It is very difficult to visit the Costa del Sol without thinking about returning. Torrox is full of charm plus the perfect weather. Consequently this makes people want to return every year
Places to visit
The whole of the beautiful Axarquia region is a great place to explore. Consequently If you enjoy rambling and getting out into the great outdoors and away from the droves of the coastal towns, this is the place for you. Likewise there is Sierra Nevada. Most noteworthy the historical city of Granada is just one hour’s drive away.
Furthermore all year long, cultural and leisure activities take place in the town. This includes theatre, exhibitions, music concerts, flamenco and traditional dance.
In the resort there are a wide selection of good cafes and bars. The main leisure area being along the Paseo Maritimo and the side streets leading to the beach.
During the summer, some bars along the coast offer music shows and flamenco performances. For the young at heart, there are also a selection of pubs and discos.
The cuisine in Torrox is typical of the Axarquia region. Specialties include Ajoblanco con Uvas (Garlic Soup with Grapes), Chota a la Cazadora (Kid in Almond Sauce), Cordero Asado al Horno (Roast Marinated Lamb) and sweet Churros. (fried dough sticks). Churros are similar to donuts dipped in hot chocolate, delicious!
Torrox region has the best climates in Europe. Because the Sierra Tejada and Sierra Almijara Mountains shelter torrox from the cold easterly winds.
